Hello, sunshine!

We have some serious sunshine at last, it's so welcome! The plants are finally able to grow with the warmth so we now have outdoor strawberries ready to pick along with raspberries and redcurrants! We’re also close to being ready to harvest and dry the lavender, ready for lavender shortbread!

Here's a before and after photo of the second bed of peas that that we staked on Tuesday. We sowed these directly rather than in pots in the greenhouse first, so we are watching the differences.

Restructures and repairs…

It is increasingly evident that the soil in the beds we have been growing carrots and beetroot in for the last two years is in need of help to restructure. We will add our compost for next year as at the moment they are just dry sand and gravel and we are facing another poor harvest; even weeds don't bother growing here! We are chasing the repairs needed on the hosing on the beds as every day there is a new split to mend. We are so grateful for the pump and also the donations that cover our electric bills that enable us to get water to the polytunnel and elsewhere in weather like this and pay for the replacement hose joiners that we need to source.

After such a long stretch of cool, wet and cloudy days (weeks and months), it’s wonderful to see the garden basking in the summer warmth and light.
